Accept responsibility for your actions
When bad things happen, it is easy to place the blame on anyone or anything besides ourselves because it feels better, temporarily. Without accepting responsibility for our actions, it is easy to believe that every single person and every single thing in the world is out to get us. If you did something, you did it – it is a fact. Do not lie, or blame someone else for your actions. You may have been influenced by others to do what you did, but ultimately it was your choice, not anyone else’s. Keep in mind that you are not less of a person because everyone makes mistakes no matter how impeccable you think someone may be.
The reason this is important is because by admitting your actions, you clear up your mind so that you can enjoy the present moment. It is challenging to remember the lie that you created, so begin with the truth because it will set you free. Initially, you first may feel guilty, embarrassed, or uncomfortable when admitting your mistake, and afterwards your mind forgives, letting the mistake go. Whereas if you decide to lie about it, then your thoughts, words, and actions are not aligned, and this mistake will be harder to permanently let go.
If taking responsibility for your mistakes is new to you, then it will feel uncomfortable. However, after doing it a few times it won’t be nearly as uncomfortable, and will actually feel rewarding. People will appreciate the fact that you are being honest with yourself and being a human, who will inevitably make mistakes.
